Isn’t Erotica just written porn?

I am not feeling well today guys so my mind isn’t functioning erotically today lol 🙂

But, one of my friends asked me this question and he is not the only one whose said that to me. Now, I Know people will have different opinions about this and that’s clearly understandable. Hence for me it feels as though people have this misconception that erotic novels and poems are simply written porn. Yes you might put it that way but that’s not the way I look at it.

As people we are sometimes excited by the visuals in our heads as we read erotic text and there are some people who prefer visuals they are looking at. I think your imagination is more powerful that what you are looking at cause what we see isn’t always what it is. Despite our imaginations being just that, I feel as though they are more truthful to what we are and what we are like. I am the one who gets excited by my own imagination.

It might surprise you that I don’t ever watch porn. I did once and trust me I was almost appalled, it didn’t excite me at all. I was perhaps 15 or 16 and really it never excited me. But the erotic novels and poems and stories, that is something that I like because I feel as though it is more beautiful that porn. The scenery, emotions and the story between the characters or people that we read is what appeals to me more than the pretence in porn.
Maybe it’s because I know there is no much truth in pornography but sometimes there isn’t much truth within erotica. But knowing someone’s imagination is as beautiful, hot and sexy like that is something to enjoy.

What I think is that the two aren’t so different, but the other is more beautiful than lusty whereas the other is just plain lusty to me.

Erotica contains emotions, even if it’s written in terms of plain fucking you can empathise with the characters or even the people involved in it. I am a person who enjoys reading something that has some emotions and I think sex without emotions is plain and boring. Which is porn. Knowing that those poeple are just doing it for the fun of people to watch really doesn’t entertain me. It just feels plain boring and too exaggerated and as much as I am an erotic writer I feel like people shouldn’t really say we are just writing porn. What we write is more beautiful than what pornography shows. It’s more valuable and more close to reality than porn.

What we write is the food for our brains and it nonetheless looks better in our imaginations.

And I understand that some people might have different views about this and I am just stating mine. Erotica isn’t written porn. It’s far more beautiful to be classified as that. Again that how it looks to me.

    1. Hey Sasha darling, thank you so much for showering my blog with so much love! And thank you for voicing your opinion on this subject. You and I have the same feeling about erotica. I too, I believe it’s very different and erotica has more to remember.

  2. Sammy, I agreed with you completely. As you know I am a role player and if you have read my plots which I wrote along with my partner have all realistic factors in it. “The rare breed found.” And even the one I posted in our blog today…. I prefer the realistic human feel into all my write up even if it’s erotically induced.

There are people asking me for sex chat… I deny right away. That’s written porn. But what we are writing have so much emotions in it that we feel them.

    Thanks for bringing it up…

    Regards, Robin.

    1. That’s true Robin. Erotica isn’t written porn it’s more beautiful than to be defined as that, hence some people say even if they know the difference between erotica and porn, they enjoy porn just the way we enjoy erotica.

Probably you need to take rest and have medical attention.

      2. Yes yes… take rest now. Take care and don’t worry about reading… if you start reading you will feel horny and there won’t be any way out as you are not well. Sorry… I am very naughty😂😂😂

  3. I generally agree that erotica is more beautiful and contains emotions, which makes it far more engaging and arousing. But I have watched good porn that does the same thing. It’s mostly the more “homemade” porn and the people on it do portray real emotions, etc. So I think maybe good porn is up there with good erotica but good porn is hard to find. Then again, so is good erotica sometimes, lol. I hate the disparaging comments about either. People can be so judgmental!

    1. I understand what you are saying and I like that you have voiced your opinion and I agree with you that there is good porn and good erotica and they are just hard to find. Maybe I watched the wrong video and it put me off lol I don’t know but I find my pleasure through erotica instead

  4. According to my opinion, this is exactly what separates erotica from porn- “Erotica contains emotions, even if it’s written in terms of plain fucking you can empathise with the characters or even the people involved in it.”

Erotica is mostly seductive, sex as plain sex can be part of it, but not something that marks erotica. As yous said, imagination is something that can arouse you, so, there are texts that contain no sex, whatsoever, but yet they are very able to rise your blood pressure. 🙂

    1. I agree with you there. Erotica is very seductive. Especially written in first person, I just feel more connected to it in an immense way. And even if it’s plain sex, when written well it could really arouse the reader sometimes.

    1. Normally when I am stuck I don’t force myself. I always have new ideas so I just start on something new and when I get an idea of continuing the previous one I simply go back to it. That’s why I am bad at working on a deadline haha

  5. To me porn is art and so is erotica. With erotica you of course get to connect with the writers mind. It’s arousing to know what they think and feel and how they possibly express themselves sexually. Porn is art in my mind too not from the connection but I can envision me and whomever I wish to be intimate with having sex or making love like the people on screen. Everything counts too, the location, sometimes what they’re wearing, saying, doing, etc. It also depends on the type of porn being watched. The fake shit when you can tell people are acting, isn’t arousing. It’s actually pretty fucking boring. LOL. But the porn where you can’t tell they’re acting and that they are generally attracted to each other is arousing. For example, I researched why some lesbian women prefer watching gay porn between two males. . Apparently It is more arousing than any other category of porn to them, even lesbians porn. I understood these reasons to be: it’s a submission focus point, whereas the world presents itself dominant by mostly males, So to see a man get fucked becomes arousing since women have been fucked over literally and figuratively since forever, and because gay porn starts seem to genuinely enjoy being fucked and sucking body parts. I guess it all about preference. Whatever floats your boat

    1. I like that you voiced your opinion because like I said everyone has different views of porn and yes I have heard there is some good porn and people are different. I enjoy erotica because to me I can also imagine myself and probably someone I like doing whatever is written within it and it makes me feel good. Whereas when I tried watching porn, it only made me feel uncomfortable and dirty in which I have always know most people are aroused by porn. And it’s totally fine, I just feel like erotica and porn are not the same, they have similarities but they have different approaches

      1. Yea they do. Someone I really like, love, want to be with enjoys writing erotica and reading it. So I’m toning down on my porn watching to understand fully why she likes it soo much. Plus I can use the extra time reading erotica to learn so pointers on how to write it better for her. I hope she doesn’t think I won’t ever write it for her again. . I have a stop to complete but, I’ve been stuck lately.

      2. I think it’s nice if you to try and write some erotica for her 🙂 and sometimes I have heard that porn can help you find some visuals you can use in your writing. So since you watch much of it maybe in your mind you already have some of your favourite that you can transfers to a paper 😉

      3. 😊 thanks for tip and not judging me. I started a story for her yesterday. But I got stuck with trying to transition into erotica scenery. I’ll write more today. Thanks again!!

      4. You are welcome. I accept people the way they are and you and I have quite a bit in common lol. And I don’t like judging people because each person is different and I am different too. Judging a person for their preference is just plain wrong

      5. I know how you feel there. That’s why I started to write erotica it was for a woman I was seeing. It’s not easy to begin with but once you get the flow going I’m sure you will go great. Have a look on my blog, at the older stories they are the ones I wrote for her before we split up (names changed of course) have a look you may find some inspiration

  6. I’ve been asked this question as well and it is usually by people who have never read any erotica and have no intention of doing so because they find it “disgusting”
I’ve never known how to answer them before but you are completely right when you say “Erotica contains emotions, even if it’s written in terms of plain fucking you can empathise with the characters or even the people involved in it.”
For anyone who has read my work, there is always underlying emotion to all of my stories. I have tried to write ones with no emotion at all but had to scrap them because they just didn’t work for me. and if i can feel a connection to the characters i’m creating how can i expect anyone else to?
Of all the stories i have written the one that is the most popular, is the one about Betrayal, Broken Hearts, New Love and not just sex but making love.
i may have gone a little off topic there but yeah i agree with your position on this 100% and thank you for finally putting into words an answer i could never come up with

    1. You are not off topic haha, and I agree that most people who make these nonsense comments about erotica are people who have not even read a single erotic book. And I have tried writing plain sex and I get board half way through and if something bores me the writer what about the reader? And I can’t wait to get your books when you come up with your pen name,

Lol am the one who is going off topic now. Just thy I love your stories and I would be the first to purchase them haha 😉

      1. EXACTLY. if you get bored writing it then how the hell is anyone going to like them the read them?
It just doesnt work. thats actually a conversation i had with a friend of mine that writes as well.
Aww thank you that means a lot as soon as i fugure out a name ill be getting a collection up for sale, “thinking maybe four or five stories to a book think that sound fair
